Katherine DeJongh
Katherine DeJongh enjoys a versatile career as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and educator. She has performed throughout the United States and Europe, as well as Korea and the Middle East. Ms. DeJongh’s concerto appearances include performances with the Polish National Chamber Orchestra, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, National Repertory Orchestra, Olsztyn State Symphony, Shenandoah Symphony, Canton Symphony, and Wooster Symphony. She has performed as a recitalist in the United States on such series as Dame Myra Hess, New York Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Stan Hywet concert series. Ms. DeJongh has presented masterclasses and performances at the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, the Cairo Conservatory in Egypt, and Taegu Conservatory in Korea, to name a few. She has participated in festivals such as the National Repertory Orchestra and the Music Academy of the West, (where she appeared as a soloist with orchestra), and the Aspen Music Festival.
Ms. DeJongh resides in Cleveland, Ohio. She holds the position of Principal Flute with the Canton Symphony and the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus. She is on faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music as Head of Orchestral Winds for the Preparatory Department, as well as Professor of Flute at Case Western Reserve University. Ms. DeJongh is also on faculty at the Interlochen Arts Camp. Additional collaborations include substitute performances as principal flutist with the Baltimore Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Toledo Symphony, Akron Symphony, Youngstown Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, Wheeling Symphony, and within the flute sections of the Cleveland Orchestra and the North Carolina Symphony. Ms. DeJongh has shared the stage with such diverse artists as Henry Mancini, Dave Brubeck, Tan Dun, Paquito D’Rivera, David Sanborn, Bela Fleck, Regina Carter, Eileen Ivers, and the World Saxophone Quartet.
Ms. DeJongh’s recordings include her most recent CD for Centaur Records entitled Twentieth Century Works for Flute and Orchestra; a CD for Koch International featuring Concerto No. 1 for flute and orchestra by Krzesimir Debski; , showcasing flute and harp chamber music; several CDs as a member of the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, including a commission of Michael Daugherty’s “Tell my Fortune” which features a movement for flute and alto flute with orchestra, and a recording of the double-concerto for flute and violin by Yenn Chwen Er, entitled “Shangshui”.
